Whether you’re looking through a magazine, walking through a restaurant or even driving, you may have noticed odd looking squares printed on billboards, brochures and advertisements. Although they look more like a Rorschach Tests, these Quick Response (QR) codes have actually become the new trend in advertisement.

If you’ve tuned in to one of our local sports games recently, you may have noticed something new and exciting: Instant Replays! Since the start of the 2011 football season Duo County Telecom and its LIVE production crews have been bringing you the big plays of the game from a different angle.

“Part of what makes our broadcasts a success is innovation,” says Duo County’s Video Producer, Ramie Hutchison.

With the popularity of mobile phones growing across the globe, we tend to forget the importance of our reliable landline phone service.

While mobile phones are at the forefront of phone communication these days, landlines still play a very important role in telecommunications. Overall, local and long distance calls are cheaper. Security systems require landlines and they are more difficult to hack than mobile phones. Not to mention that if you dial 9-1-1 from a landline phone, the emergency responders can pinpoint your exact location unlike a mobile phone.

Taylor Danielle Watson of Burkesville, Ky., has received the Lindsey Wilson Duo County Scholarship. She will attend the liberal arts college in the fall.

The $3,000 tuition scholarship is given annually to a first-time, full-time Lindsey Wilson freshman from Duo County’s service area, which includes parts of Adair, Cumberland and Russell counties.

The smarter our phones get, the more they can do for us. Bluegrass Cellular now offers two phones that can serve as a Wireless Internet Hot Spot, giving you internet access almost anywhere.

 Tom Preston

The Duo County Telephone Board of Directors has selected Tom Preston as its new chief executive officer. The decision came after the retirement of longtime CEO Bill Magruder.

Mr. Preston has more than 15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry and prior to coming to Duo County served as the CEO for Foothills Telephone Company in Staffordsville, Kentucky.
